The Family Photography Experience

A family photography session should feel enjoyable, unrushed, and natural — not something to worry about or perform for. From our first conversation to the final finished photographs, my approach is designed to be calm, thoughtful, and centred around you.

Before the session

Every session begins with a friendly, informal conversation. This gives us time to talk about your family, what you’re hoping to create, and how you’d like the photographs to feel.

I’ll offer gentle guidance on:

  • What to wear, with simple suggestions that photograph beautifully

  • Colours and textures that work well together

  • Choosing locations that feel relaxed and meaningful

  • Whether an outdoor or at-home session is the best fit for you

There’s no pressure to prepare everything perfectly — the aim is simply to help you feel at ease and confident going into the session.

Outdoor sessions

Outdoor sessions are calm and unstructured, allowing children (and adults) to move, explore, and be themselves. Nothing is rushed, and there’s no expectation to pose or perform.

I work quietly and patiently, observing moments as they naturally unfold — laughter, curiosity, quiet connections. If someone needs a break, that’s absolutely fine. The session adapts to your family, not the other way around.

These sessions are ideal for families who want images that feel full of life, movement, and genuine connection.

At-home sessions

For sessions in your home, I bring a simple, professional setup that allows me to create timeless portraits with minimal disruption.

Setup takes around 15 minutes and includes:

  • A clean, neutral background

  • Professional lighting, all fully wireless to reduce clutter and prevent trip hazards

Once everything is in place, the session flows naturally. We’ll take a generous number of photographs, giving plenty of variation in expressions and interactions, without ever feeling overwhelming.

Home sessions are especially well suited to babies, young children, and families who prefer a quieter, familiar environment.

Pets are family too

Pets are very much part of the family, and they’re always welcome to be included in your session. Whether it’s a dog bounding through an outdoor shoot or a quieter moment at home with a much-loved companion, I photograph pets with the same care and patience as everyone else.

There’s no need for them to behave perfectly — their personality is part of the story.

After the session

Following your session, I carefully curate a preview gallery of around 30–40 lightly refined images. These are gently adjusted to reflect the tone and feel of the finished photographs, allowing you to see the story of your session clearly.

From this gallery, you can choose the image or images you love most. Your selected photographs are then given my full editing attention, creating finished portraits designed to last.

Prints & keepsakes

The Wonder, Keepsake, and Heritage collections each include a beautifully finished 12 × 8 fine art print, presented within a 16 × 12 fine art mount, ready to frame and enjoy.

You’ll also have the option to add:

  • Framed fine art prints

  • Digital image collections

  • Albums and additional artwork

These options allow you to build something that suits your family and your home, without pressure or obligation.

A calm, thoughtful experience

Above all, my aim is to create a photography experience that feels easy, personal, and genuinely enjoyable — resulting in photographs that feel natural, honest, and meaningful.

If you have any questions, or would like help deciding which type of session is right for you, I’m always happy to talk things through.
